BLOG POST: My Stuttering Story and Coming Out of the Shadows.

Proud Stutter launches today with the release of the first episode, ‘Stuttering, The Coming Out Story,’ and I’ve never been more thrilled to share it with the world.

After 28 years of hiding my stutter, I am finally coming out of the shadows at 29 years old. This shift started with the realization that opening up about my stutter is bigger than myself. There are over 70 million adults who stutter worldwide, and it’s time we are seen, heard, and listened to.

While opening up about my stutter has provided me with a new feeling of freedom and confidence, I know for others who stutter it may be more difficult. That is why I started Proud Stutter, to make it easier for the generations that follow. The more stories we share about stuttering, the more we are understood and not stigmatized for sounding different.

My hope with Proud Stutter is for people who stutter to feel seen and heard and a little less alone. I had not met another person who stuttered until college, and as a result, I felt alone and misunderstood since I first started speaking. But now, I found my community with people from around the globe who speak and sound just like me.

Take a Listen, Leave a Review, and make a contribution if you can. All proceeds go towards sustaining this project for the global stuttering community and our allies.
