Proud Stutter is attracting thousands of listeners around the world through its podcast of the same name. 

To reach even more people and to amplify the show’s message - stuttering is just a different way of speaking, not something that needs to be fixed - we have launched an Impact Campaign to bring its upcoming documentary film project to classrooms and communities across the U.S.

  • 1. The film project is a catalyst to bring speech diversity and specifically stuttering into mainstream conversation in a transformative way sparking international dialogue among people who stutter, loved ones, speech therapists, educators, allies, policymakers, and media.

    2. The documentary educates healthcare professionals — including the next generation of speech-language pathologists, pediatricians, and general practitioners. 

    3. The film highlights ongoing efforts to normalize conversations around speech diversity and stuttering, increase research funding and create policy changes that decrease financial barriers to care.

  • We are partnering with people who stutter, loved ones, advocacy groups, educators, policymakers and organizational allies through the following initiatives: 

    COMMUNITY-BUILDING EVENTS with dynamic community conversations among people who stutter, loved ones, speech therapists, lawmakers, media and other stakeholders with the goal of connecting with fellow film enthusiasts and building support for the film project;

    INTERNATIONAL PRESS COVERAGE to engage stakeholders & elevate the public profile of the film & stuttering;

    UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY-BUILDING TOUR at colleges & universities around the world with student organizations, faculty and administrations;

    MEDICAL SCHOOL COMMUNITY-BUILDING TOUR at medical schools and nursing schools around the world with screening events & exclusive panel discussions with the filmmakers, medical students & faculty leaders;

    VIRTUAL COMMUNITY-BUILDING EVENTS and conversations with filmmakers engaging people who stutter, speech therapists, organizations, advocacy groups, conferences, and more;

    STUTTERING COMIC BOOKS & TOOLKITS to educate librarians, speech therapists, doctors, adolescents, teachers and school administrators;

    PREMIERE AT A TOP-TIER FESTIVAL to further lift up the platform of stuttering voices. 

    SECURE INTL BROADCAST so millions of viewers in the U.S. (PBS) and many other countries can watch the film.

Who We Are

First and foremost, we are humans. Many of us are humans who have experienced shame and being misunderstood because of our stutters. Some of us have experienced incarceration and the horrors of solitary confinement first-hand.

Together, we’re a team of organizers committed to creating an impact through transformative community organizing, advocacy, media, and film. Proud Stutter has created a space that was sorely needed - a safe space for people who stutter to share their voice and feel connected through media and community. Now, we are producing a documentary about marginalized voices within the stuttering community. This made us more than a team. We are friends. We are a chosen family. Together, we are strengthening a speech diversity movement.

Individually we are professionals: award-winning authors, interdisciplinary artists, activists, researchers, professors, and storytellers.
